Our news

We are looking for a project to undertake this year. Do you have a suggestion for the Club to consider? As an example, we could plant wild flowers and have more bee hotels in park areas. You’ll know that we have planted bulbs and trees as well as our great pollinator patch and bee hotel in Garden Hill. Speak to a director or bring your ideas to the March meeting.

If you want your own copy of the Ontario Horticultural Society new Ontario Judging & Exhibition Standards let me know. The $10 fee is payable in advance. I can take orders now and get the copies at the OHA April meeting. Contact Carole Elliott, celliott@eagle.ca

Our 2019 yearbook will be available at the March meeting.

Membership fees are due. Just $15 for individuals and $20 for families. Pay Maggie Money in March.

Our March 18 meeting will feature local naturalist Elizabeth Kellogg on birds and their habitats.

Sat Mar 2, Peterborough Master Gardeners is holding a day-long workshop. For details visit www.peterboroughmastergardeners.com

Our OHA District’s AGM is scheduled for Sat April 6 at the Keeler Centre in Colborne. After the business meeting, Leslie Abrams will talk about ‘small creatures in our gardens.’

Planning ahead

Many interesting gardening events are listed in the 2019 yearbook.

After hearing her speak last year, you may be tempted to go on one of Margaret Dailey-Plouffe’s tours this year. June 22-26 – Mansions and gardens of Newport, RI; July 14-19 – Quebec garden tour; July 22-24 – Buffalo Garden Festival tour. Visit https://hnatravels.com for details.

Visit Meadowview Gardens’ website for details about the workshops to be held this year. www.meadowviewgardens.org

Our Garden Club is going to have a yard sale and membership promotion table again at the Arts Festival in Memorial Park on August 10. Have a look around to see if you have items to donate to the club fundraising event. In addition to gardening materials, we will include vases and other items that will tempt visitors.
