The Mount Forest Horticultural Society initially formed in 1875, but was disbanded in 1933 due to the approaching war.  The present society received its charter in 1953. The bearded iris has been our flower from the beginning.

We would like to thank everyone who visits us via the web or attends our meetings! We meet at the Mount Forest United Church, 175 Queen St. (near Tim Hortons.), starting in April and we are wheel chair accessible.  If you wish to visit or join our society, just come out to a meeting. Everyone is welcome!

Our society consists entirely of volunteers. These individuals are our life-force! They plant and weed our town gardens throughout the summer, organize our events, assist with our plant sale, and do all the other things that make a wonderful society effective! The future of our society is in the hands of young gardeners! If you love gardening, or are interested and not sure how to get started, or if you just want to help and experience a warm welcome to a wonderful community, come on out and see us!  Our volunteers plant and care for flower beds at the North Wellington Sports Center, Cork Street Park, Mount Forest cemetery entrance, Murphy Park, Roy Grant Park, and Ruth Barker Memorial Garden, as well as each of the 4 entrance gardens to our town. The turnout includes all age groups, including both teen and elderly volunteers. We all do what we can!

If you would like to help us in beautifying our community, please contact Colette MacTavish at
