Next meeting - Monday, May 26th 7:30 pm
Speaker: James Graham
James is currently OHA president, lifetime member of Waterloo Horticultural Society, and a continuing passionate gardener.
“This year I will be gardening on 6 community garden plots and at home on a 2/3 acre semi-naturalized lot. Since the age of 5, I have been delighted to explore the various aspects of Horticulture and am equally delighted by the renewed interest in vegetable gardening. It is my belief that gardening is good for the body, mind, and soul.”
Topic: Down the Garden Path
A look at several different aspects of a garden and beyond the garden borders: vegetables, clematis, shrubbery, perennials, hostas, roadsides, invasives, and my favourite annuals.
Our Floral Design Course – A Success!
The Grimsby Garden Club sponsored a four-week floral design course. It was expertly led by Lil Haworth, accredited floral judge and Club member. Twenty-two eager participants gathered in April to learn the skills of floral design. Armed with clippers, flowers, and frogs, we listened and watched in amazement as Lil created stunning arrangements while explaining the theory of floral design. Each of us successfully put together lovely arrangements to take home with us. The course was interesting, informative and fun, and we cannot wait for the next chapter. We are also eagerly awaiting our chance to enter the Grimsby Garden Club Floral Show on Monday, June 23, 2014. If you would like further information, please look at our website
Grimsby Garden Club Plant Sale
Thanks to all the helpers who came out for the Plant Sale on May 10th (9:00am till sold out). We had expert leadership from Donna Tyre making it fun and easy to help out. And Kathy Smart brought her wonderful organizing skills to the set-up and sale day. We appreciated receiving your plants, and were happy to see members come out to buy.
Grimsby Gardens Maintained by the Club
The gardens the GGC maintain for the town look great. Wander past the yellow bed and the white bed (daffs both, across from the GBF). They are a treat for the senses. We’re looking forward to two new trees the town will be planting later this spring, and the redesign of the beds. Many thanks to Lauren and the other volunteers who keep these gardens looking good all summer.
