As your representative on the Ontario Horticultural Association Board I want to wish all of you the very best for the 2017 gardening season. The snow is finally blanketing the gardens but it was certainly a warm long fall season. Why up until the end of November is was almost balmy some days. Warm enough that I did get a few things dug up potted and dug into the garden all set for the spring plant sale.

The big news this year from District 3 is we are hosting the OHA Convention in 2018

112th OHA Provincial Convention

July 27 to 29 2018

Ambassador Hotel and Convention Center

Theme is “Shore to Shield”

Come delve into the gardening Diversity of District 3

I am very excited to be able to showcase all that District 3 has to offer. We are a large district with great diversity in our garden geography. We stretch all the way from shores of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River up to the Canadian Shield.  And so our Theme of “Shore to Shield” is most fitting. The planning has just started and I do hope that as many of you as possible can find the time to lend a hand. I know that we have a wealth of experience and skills that will make this a great event success.

I want to thank all of you for the long hours and hard work you put into your Societies and District 3. The work that each of you do in your community helps to make your community and the province of Ontario a better place to live work play and garden . OHA members logged over half a million hours of volunteer time. A big thank you to all.

The OHA‘s vision is to create a supportive environment for gardeners of all ages and all walks of life. We are doing this through fostering the growth of our member societies and encouraging the use of ecofriendly horticultural practices to promote the production of food, beautification of our communities and the conservation of the environment,

The new OHA website is still under development but do keep an eye out at www.gardenontario.org there is still a lot of info to be found on programs and awards.

Garden Ontario week is all set for June 10 to 18, 2017 so mark it on your calendar.

Please take a look for information of Convention 2017 it is going to be a “Green from Shore to Shore”. Do plan to come to Richmond Hill July 21-23 and see what it’s all about great tours, speakers and networking opportunities will abound. It’s just the place and make new friends with people who just like you enjoy the pleasure of gardening.

Do feel free to chat with me at any meeting or contact me at  execd3oha@gmail.com

or dird3oha@gmail.com. I would like to wish you all the very best and much success in the 2017 gardening season.
