The morning speaker is Robert Glendinning. He will present the Trees, Shrubs, Their Flowers and the Pollinators that LoveThem. A tour from spring to fall of the different woody plant genera of the the Dominion Arboretum. He will talk about the points of interest regarding flowers in general, ornamental qualities, flowering time, propagation, and pollinators. Robert is the groundskeeper and propagator at the Experimental Farm's Arboretum and Ornamental Gardens. -- The afternoon speaker is Michael Runtz. He present Sex, bribes, and outright lies: the devious world of wildflower reproduction. Michael is a dynamic communicator and one of Canada’s most highly respected naturalists, nature photographers, and natural history authors. He has lived, breathed and worked with nature all his life. Professionally, Michael has worked as a naturalist in Canada’s national and provincial parks and is currently a professor at Carleton U. in Ottawa. He is the celebrated author of 13 books with facts and fabulous photographs of nature at its best. -- District 1 2019 AGM Competitions Theme: Sex in the Garden Entries for all competitions may be placed starting at 8:00am and all entries must be in place by 9:00am. There will be greeters on hand to help. Please use your Society’s entry tag for the competitions. Exhibitors should collect their entries at the end of the meeting as items left behind will not be returned. Eligibility: The competition is open to members in good standing of their respective Societies. Judging for all competitions will be People’s Choice—you are the judge! Delegates attending the AGM will each have one vote per class. Voting will start at 9:00am and be available during the lunch break. The Coordinators for each competition will conduct the final count after lunch. Prizes for all competitions: 1st $15 2nd $10 3rd $5
