District 9 encompasses the Niagara peninsula from Grimsby to Niagara Falls. As well, it includes the Dunnville Horticultural Society located in Haldimand County. There are thirteen societies in the District.

In District 9, we garden in a variety of conditions ranging in Zones from 5 to 6. Some areas are quite sheltered and many exotic plants are grown here by adventurous gardeners.

We have two meetings per year, one being our AGM in the spring and the other the Fall Forum, usually held on the last Saturday in September. Both meetings have speakers and flower shows. Information and schedules are available under "Spring AGM and Fall Forum".  Additionally, we hold a Presidents' Meeting on a  Saturday mid November. Information is passed along at this meeting concerning events, Annual Reports etc.

District 9 also donated $400 to the Niagara Region Science Fair. Judging took place on Saturday April 16, 2016. An entire day was spent judging projects. The quality of these projects made it very hard to decide on winners. On Wednesday April 29, 2016, presenttions were made at an awards ceremony. Of note, we have received thank you cards from all of the recipients who were chosen by District 9.

In 2016,  our AGM was held on April 30 at St. Andrew's Parish Hall in Grimsby. Our morning speaker was Rob Croley from Sentimental Farms in Grimsby who spoke on their facility and the benefits of backyard vegetable gardening. Our afternoon speaker was the renowned floral designer Lizzie Matheson who charmed us with her presentation entitled "The Pleasure is Mine.  This proved to be a fun day with lots of camaraderie and just plain fun!

In the Fall of 2016, District 9 hosted a Breakfast meeting with Paul Zammit as our guest speaker. Paul's enthusiastic presentation on Creating Biodiversity in the Home Garden, resonated with our members as well as several guests in attendance. This topic will continue to be a focus for the Ontario Horticultural Association in the coming year. Our Flower Show competition was well done with Niagara Falls Horticultural Society entering 46 entries and thus they were the winners of the Competiton Award.

In the year that District 9 hosted Convention 2012, we sold over 1500 of the 1812 Rose.  It is a red rose and very disease resistant. Palatine Roses in Niagara on the Lake has been the grower for this rose. At this time, sales of the 1812 Rose have been completed. If you have any further questions about the rose, please contact Palatine Roses. There are a few of the roses left for sale. Palatine Roses can be contacted at this website.Palatine Roses. Many thanks to all who supported District 9 in the sale of the rose and especially to the rose committee, who devoted countless hours to the success of this fundraiser.
