Project Paw Paw by Louie Fiorino
Project Pawpaw – As part of this special initiative, a series of grower training seminars on Pawpaw cultivation have been scheduled throughout Windsor and Essex County during March. This series has been developed by the Naturalized Habitat Network with assistance from the Pawpaw Research Program at Kentucky State University and provides a comprehensive overview of this species, along with its unique requirements and cultivation techniques. These seminars are open to both home gardeners and professional growers and cover everything from planting recommendations to harvesting techniques and kitchen preparation. Pawpaw seedlings will also be available for qualifying participants. In addition, participants will be able to participate in a variety of follow-up tours scheduled throughout the coming year. Three separate training session have been scheduled to take place in Windsor. This will begin with a Saturday morning session on March 24, followed by two evening sessions on Wednesday, March 28 and Monday, April 2. Each session is about 2.5 hours in length and is limited to 15 participants. The cost is $10 for advanced registration or $12 for at-the-door registrations. To reserve your space call Dan Bissonnette, Program Coordinator at 519-259-2407. To learn more abut Project Pawpaw and other related events, visit their web site at www.naturalizedhabitat.org .
