NEWSLETTER FOR JANUARY 2010
by Pat George

Dear Members:

Here we are starting a new year and I know we are going to experience a great one.  The reason I know this is because I have a great team with me to share the load and keep me on the right path.  We have an interesting program for you to share in and learn from.  Please know that my ear is always available to you for comments or concerns.  I have introduced some small changes that will take place on a trial basis.  Nothing is ever written in stone so please let me know your feelings on the various changes you see and experience.  These will begin in February and you will notice them as you enter for the meeting.  They are as follows:

Table #1)  Membership table will be re-located by the entrance.

Table #2)  Please check off your name on the attendance sheet or add your name if it is not there. Put on a peel-off name tage - Frst name only is fine.  Collect a newsletter and any information that is available as hand outs.

Table #3)   Fill out a ballot for "Volunteer" draws.

Table #4)  Draw tickets and Door Prize tickets are available here.

Table #5)  Clipboards for volunteering for our various events.

For a few months, we are going to experiment with a break time.  We are going to have our refreshments after the business portion of the evening before we introduce our speaker.  At this time, members can sign up for events on the clipboards, located on Table #5.  The time allotted for the break will depend on the length of the business meeting and the speaker's requirements.  Let us know (after a trial period) what your opinion is.

This year I am pleased to introduce a couple of contests for our members.  The first one will take place in May and will be called the Mr. or Mrs. Hort Contest.  A mounting board will be provided and you will produce a face using only glue and horticulture materials.  These can include seeds, twigs, leaves, branches, or anthing that was once a part of a living plant.  A judge will pick the best one and a nice prize worth $20.00 will be awarded.

The second contest will take place in October of this year and will be a photo competition.  The program for this event will be handed out at the February meeting.  The competition will cover 3 seasons, and will offer you a chance to take pictures throughout the gardening season.  Give it a try, and let's have fun.

We will be receiving at our monthly meetings, a newsletter, produced by our secretary April, that will keep us informed and up to date on activities and events that are happening around our area.  She will begin this in February.  Any submissions you may have for this newsletter would be appreciated.

I wish for you a good gardening season and an enjoyable year as a member of the society.

Pat
