Fall Seminar October 2006 by Tottenham & Dist. HS
District 16 Fall Seminar 2006 From Dee DeFoe, Chairperson
In the fall of 2005 when we first heard about hosting the Fall Seminar 2006, I must admit I had serious reservations. But with a small Committee in place we started planning in October 2005….. and never looked back!! We decided right away to make it a very special Seminar in honour of OHA’S 100TH Anniversary and the choice of venue quickly narrowed down to the Woodington Lake Golf and Country Club. We contacted Charlene at Woodington, who was a wonderful help, and got us started off on the right track. She bent over backwards to show us how we could manage the cost and with everyone pitching in, it all came together .With the efforts of over 30 member volunteers and the generous donations by local supportive businesses, we pulled it off!
October 21st dawned bright and beautiful— the facility decked out beyond anyone’s expectations (thanks to the volunteers who worked so hard the night before!), and the grounds in all their splendor beckoned 144 guests (including volunteers) outside to bask in the sunlight and beautiful views.
Our breakfast table food was supplied entirely by members and was “to die for” as one of our guests from Bond Head Society put it. Tim Horton's helped out with coffee and Woodington staff was right there making sure it all came together. The tables were lovely with potted flowers as centerpieces, and a delicious lunch being served with linen tablecloths, cloth napkins and silverware. They certainly did us all proud!
Everyone went away with keepsakes or prizes—and our raffle table prizes were a great success bringing in $602.00 for our coffers! The prizes were donated mostly by members. The accolades received from attending Societies were gratefully appreciated by the 32 volunteers who baked, supplied drinks, little gifts and a lot of their time to make the day a success. We need to give ourselves a big pat on the back! I believe the Tottenham Society will always be remembered for the Fall Seminar of 2006— the year the Ontario Horticultural Association turned 100 years old!!
(NB. A very special thanks go to Dee DeFoe, her daughter Michele, and the rest of the Committee for all their hard work to make this such a huge success. Shirley Gent)
