Youth Activities 2010
by Anna Peterson

The Leaders of the St. Marys Horticultural Society Youth Club are attempting to encourage young people to learn about gardening and all the lifelong pleasures this knowledge can bring.

At the present time we are working within the St. Marys Central and Holy Name of Mary Schools, with an after school program. The program is held at least once a month during the school year.

We offer planting experiences, horticultural related crafts, colouring pages related to the topic of the day, etc.

We also offer the opportunity for children to compete in competitions at the Society level, the CNE and the Ontario Horticultural Association Convention.

When you visit the flower shows please pay special attention to the youth exhibits. These young people are the future of horticulture and society in general .

Your support is important.

“I rejoice when I see anyone, especially children,

Inquiring about flowers, and wanting gardens of their

Own, and carefully working in them.

A garden is a grand teacher.

It teaches patience and careful watchfulness”.
