Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society Events & Announcements
Tuesday March 18 – 7:30pm – “Vine Inspiration” presented by Mary Reid, Master Gardener of Ontario and Owner of the Green Thumb Garden Centre (http://www.greenthumbgarden.ca/) a locally owned and operated retail garden center located in the Nepean area of Ottawa. Presentation takes place at the Pretty Street Community Centre, 2 Pretty Street, Stittsville - Guest Fee $2.00.
Tuesday April 15 – 7:30pm – “Drought Tolerant Planting” presented by Fleurette Huneault, retired Master Gardener of Ontario. Presentation takes place at the Pretty Street Community Centre, 2 Pretty Street, Stittsville - Guest Fee $2.00.
Spring Gardening Seminar – Presented by the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society. The seminar takes place on Saturday April 5 from 9:00am to 3:30pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Stittsville. You will receive expert advice on how to make the best of your gardening time and money this year.

We Need Your Help - The OHA District 2 – Annual District Meeting is being co-hosted by the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society and the West Carleton Horticultural Society at the Kinburn Community Centre on Saturday April 26th, 2008. We estimate 200 or more delegates and members from all 21 Societies within District 2 will attend. We are accepting donations of the following items:
- Mugs - clear out the clutter and help us host an environmentally friendly event.
- Items or Services for Silent Auction.
- Items for +200 “loot bags” – Promote your company and donate items like seed packets, water bottles, pens, note pads; be creative.
If you would like to help us make this event one of the best District 2 Meetings ever contact Marg Farr at marg_farr@yahoo.ca or add their names to the yellow volunteer sheet at the upcoming March and April meetings.

Tuesday March 25 – 7:30pm – “Belles d’un Jour and Companions: Daylilies & Grasses” presented by Suzanne Patry of Whitehouse Perennials in Almonte (http://www.whitehouseperennials.com). The presentation is sponsored by the Ottawa Horticultural Association and takes place at Tom Brown Arena, 141, Bayview Avenue in Ottawa. Admission is free.
Tuesday April 8 – 7:00pm – “Beneficial Insects” presented by Fran Dennett, Master Gardener and sponsored by The Friends of the Farm. Ms. Dennet will speak on the why and how to attract helpful insects to your garden. The presentation takes place at the Experimental Farm, Building 72, Arboretum. Fee is $15.00 for non-members. Thursday April 17, 2008 – 7:00pm – 9:00pm - “Landscaping Alternatives – Escaping the Lawn” presented by Mary Anne Jackson-Hughes & Penny MacDonald and sponsored by the City of Ottawa. Gain practical knowledge and ideas on landscaping your property with less lawn maintenance. Ms. Jackson-Hughes and Ms. MacDonald will lead the seminar which includes a Q & A session – so have your questions ready. The seminar takes place at the Goulbourn Municipal Building, 2135 Huntley Road, Stittsville. The seminar is free. Saturday April 12 - 1:30pm - "Building for Growing: Creating Habitats for Plants" presented by Peter Korn and sponsored by the Ottawa Valley Rock Garden and Horticultural Society. The presentation takes place at Algonquin College, Woodroffe Campus, Room T117, Building T. Guest fee is $5.00.
Tuesday April 1 – 7:00pm – “Organic Gardening and Lawn Care” presented by Neill Ritchie and sponsored by the Kanata-March Horticultural Society. The presentation takes place at Old Town Hall, March Road, Kanata. Guest Fee required.
Register now to receive a tree to plant on your property. One potted tree is available per household. The Trees, Reforestation and Environmental Enhancement (TREE) Program is a four year initiative that aims to enhance the City of Ottawa’s urban and rural forests through the planting of 100,000 trees between 2007 and 2010. The TREE Program empowers Ottawa residents, businesses, community groups and schools to participate in planting trees to enhance and maintain the city’s forest cover and combat climate change.
