Our History
St. Catharines Horticultural Society was founded in 1857 our society is one of the oldest societies in Ontario. The first meeting was held at the town hall with Calvin Phelps Esq. elected president. The society was one of the first to affiliate with the Ontario Horticultural Association in 1907.
The name "Garden City Horticultural Society" was adopted in 1965 to reflect the amalgamation of Grantham Township, Merritton, St. Catharines, and Port Dalhousie. In 2001, the Society chose to reclaim it's historical representation of the citizens of St. Catharines and once again be named the St. Catharines Horticultural Society.
