History and Mandate

Our society has a  beautiful Mascot...a Walking Sunflower! It was created by Bonnie Robinson and Lee Medenski. It will be used at many Public functions throughout the year to represent our interesting society. If you see this mascot....give it a wave and a hug too!

You will see our Mascot at our 25th Anniversary celebration  in May.

*See Home Page for Society's logo*.

Irene Smith created our Society logo. The 2 spruce trees represent Sprucedale and District. The twig represents all evergreens in our area. The flower symbolizes all flowers including flowers on vegetables, trees and shrubs.

The society’s mandate includes:

Promoting the planting of trees, shrubs and flowers on public and private properties and education of members through speakers, field trips and other events.

In 1988 the Society received a Provincial award for the greatest membership growth. In 1989, herb and perennial beds were planted in the Centennial Garden At the McMurrich Township Office on Highway #518.

Since then the Society maintains gardens at Sprucedale Community Center, Perry Township Public Library and Almaguin Highlands Information Center, Kearney Township Office and Novar Community Center Gardens.

Our Society has been involved in the events of the Township as hosts to Flower Shows, Bake Sales, Plant Sales and Garden Tours. They have also entered floats in the Sprucedale Parades…handing out seeds and Gardening information. In 1991,with the approval of the membership, we successfully updated the  constitution and bylaws. We  currently have five executive and ten committee board Members. A Newsletter is published annually with all the important events.
