2009 President's Message

Here we are a brand new year and practically a brand new executive. First though let me express our sincere appreciation and thanks to Karen Julian, Past President, Kathleen Lang, Vice President, Ellen Waller, Treasurer, Linda Graveline, Secretary and Directors, Lorna Stewart, Charles McLenaghan, Hope Bell, Anneke Phillips, Dianne O'Reilly, Larry and Pauline Armstrong for all their hard work throughout 2008.
I must comment that Hope and Ellen who have been with us during the entire short life of our Society (entering our fifth year) and Charles in his third year, are all are stepping down. Although we will miss their presence they will be assisting us behind the scenes - Many Thanks for that as we rookies need all the help we can get. As for the new Executive and Board of Directors, many of us are new to our positions and the work we are about to perform so I trust our members will be patient with as we learn.
We also thank our many Corporate sponsors and the town of Smiths Falls for their financial support which ensures we can do our public plantings and other projects.
As we endeavor to continue with our goals of educating and beautifying I expect that we shall also have some fun. We have a line up of interesting speakers and we will be planning some events, workshops, flower shows and the photo contest for our members.
Our annual plant sale is a huge fund raiser and once again we look forward to the support and participation of our members to make this year's sale equally successful.
This new year will be a challenge for me in the position I have undertaken yet I know we continue to learn a great deal, have fun, renew old friendships, make some new ones and isn't that what it's all about!
