Many people comment on the lovely tall yellow flowers at MacKinlay Paul Park and wanted to know what they are. They are ‘Lemon Queen’ Helianthus, commonly known as Perennial Sunflower. This stunning 5 to 8 ft back-of-the-border perennial is easy to grow, hardy to Zone 9, full sun location, average soil moisture, and will tolerate most soils. 3” daisy-like blooms are excellent for cutting. Plant can be pinched back in June to keep them lower and bushier, otherwise plant will need staking. Blooms mid summer to fall. Deer & rabbit resistant. Helianthus also comes in a dwarf version as well.
