Schomberg Horticultural Society

This year, 2005, Schomberg Horticultural Society is entering its 70th year. We have grown and changed over the years and are very proud of all our accomplishments. We have created gardens that are much admired and appreciated by the community, especially the Lily Bed at the Library and the Teaching Garden at the entrance to our Village.

As a society we play an active role in the community and all members work hard in making Schomberg Horticultural Society a success.

Schomberg Horticultural Society meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at the Schomberg Community Hall unless notified.

On Tuesday, March 22^nd, 2005, Schomberg Horticultural Society's first meeting of the year was held at Schomberg Public Library. Many thanks to the library for their hospitality, the generous donation of a book, "Perennials For Ontario", and the wonderful display of gardening books which are available for loan through the library.

It was a very busy and successful meeting. A year’s membership to the society was available at $15.00 per person or $20.00 per family. New and returning members kept the membership desk busy.

The highlight of the evening was the "Dufferin Marsh" presented by Mary Asselstine & Charles Cooper. It was a most educational presentation. The Dufferin Marsh ( The Duff as it was once called ) is a part of nature within the community of Schomberg. Schomberg is an ideal setting for gardeners.

The Dufferin Marsh is within the heart of the village.  This wetland is what gives Schomberg its unique character and quality of community life. The marsh allows Schomberg to have a blend of urban life and natural features. Our gardens are full of the Marsh dwellers from the tiniest of insects to the loud and bold Canada Geese.

To complete the meeting, refreshments were served while members chatted with our guest speakers and selected bargains at our monthly sale’s table.

Our next meeting is GUEST NIGHT and will be on Tuesday, April 26^th, 2005. This meeting will take place starting at 8:00 pm. at Schomberg Community Hall, Main Street, Schomberg.
