Ontario Horticultural Association Centennial Tulips by Stacie Scharf
Spring has sprung and so have the Ontario Horticultural Association’s anniversary tulips. For the last one hundred years the Ontario Horticultural Association has touched the lives of members and non-members alike through community based activities.
In commemoration of this achievement, the Russell and District Horticultural Society was pleased to donate an equal number of tulip bulbs to numerous local elementary schools. Students ranging from nursery school age up to and including graduating elementary student age planted the commemorative bulbs last year. One junior elementary class chose to pot the bulbs so as to study them and to enjoy the soft purple tulips indoors. One class of graduation students planted their bulb in the school’s graduates’ garden. Other classes planted their bulbs outdoors in various attractive groupings and formations.
The Russell and District Horticultural Society was pleased to be able to contribute to the beautification program at each school.
With the same commitment as past Ontario Horticultural Association members, the Russell and District Horticultural Society membership will strive to continue to do community projects like the tulip project, building community among neighbours. (2008-03-18) |
