Meetings

Our meetings this year are held on the following Sunday afternoons, at the Toronto Botanical Garden, and begin at 2:00 p.m.  Please note that the Toronto Botanical Garden can be very busy and parking tight so we suggest you come early.  If the lot is full, you can park, just south of the Botanical Gardens at the church and walk over.

2011 Meetings and Events

March 6 "Rose Gardens in Toronto in the 1980's"

This program features slides of the following classic gardens: Mike and Doreen Goulding, Paul and Anne Graber, Evelyn Fallis, Roy and Teresa Barrow, Alex and Irene Wright, Pearl Wilby, Audrey Meiklejohn, Ismail and Gloria Elkholy

April 3 Vegetable Gardening with James Graham

Our April speaker comes highly recommended. The topic is Vegetable Gardening at home. One member reports:

His name is James Graham. He's a wonderful person. He's from Waterloo and is the Director of OHA District 19. He's retired now but his career was spent in the culinary world as the executive chef at one of the universities. He now runs a B & B out of his house.

He's been involved in gardening all is life and speaks on multiple hort topics. In addition to extensive gardens on his own property, he has plots in several community gardens around the city where he plants to his heart's content. Last year he harvested 100 lbs of tomatoes which he canned. He preserves all sorts of harvest products for use through the winter.

Our First Ever Book Sale.  Books on roses and general gardening.  Two large beautiful books will be set up as a silent auction. 

May 1 Propagating Roses

June 5 Hostas with Bob Leask

Bob Leask and Cec Lamrock will bring hostas for sale.

June 18 Annual Rose, Horticulture and Design Show at "Shops on Steeles"

September 18 Daylilies. (speaker not yet confirmed)

We will also have a Rose and Horticulture Show.

Unlike our June show, there will not be judges, but members will vote for

their favorites.

October 16 2011 Show Review and panel discussion

Come and see photos of the winning roses at our June show.  Learn about the roses from exhibitors and get some great ideas for your own rose garden.

November 20 Annual Meeting. We are hoping that Rene Schmidt of Palatine Roses will be our guest speaker, but he will not be able to confirm until later in the year.
