Riverdale Horticultural Society

RHS meets at 7:30 p.m., the second Wednesday of every month except July, August and September at
Frankland Community Centre

Each meeting begins with a short business session followed by a guest speaker who gives a presentation on his/her field of expertise (usually with a colourful slide show). To end the evening, we socialize over delicious treats and tea made by volunteers.
Every month we have a friendly competition where members are encouraged to bring a potted plant and/or a floral arrangement to be judged. Points are awarded to all entrants monthly and prizes (usually spring flowering bulbs) are given out yearly based on an accumulated score. This year, points are also being awarded for bringing a visitor to our meetings.
The highlights of the year are our flower show which is an opportunity to show off our gardening and design skills and a plant sale/bazaar, which is our only fund-raising event. See EVENTS for details.
During the spring and summer months, you will find some of our more active members weeding and planting in a beautiful perennial garden located at the north end of Withrow Park, near the tennis courts. More volunteers are always welcome. Afterwards, we frequent the local coffee shop for more socializing and treats.
Some of our members have limited garden skills while others are more experienced. Some have access to small city gardens, alotment gardens, balconies, roof-tops or just windowsills. But our commonality lies in our interest to learn about gardening and to share ideas with other like-minded people.
