Permitted Pest Control Products
by NYHS-City of Toronto

Pest Controls Products Permitted under the by-law.

 

The by-law permits use of certain lower risk products to control pests and weeds. These products must be or must contain only the following active ingredients.

·          Soap

·          Mineral Oil, also called dormant or horticultural oil

·          Silicon dioxide, also called diatomaceous earth

·          Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis), nematodes and other biological control organisms

·          Borax, also called boric acid or boracic acid

·          Ferric phosphate

·          Acetic acid

·          Pyrethrum or pyrethrins

·          Fatty acids

·          Sulphur or

·          Corn gluten meal

These products are in garden centers and stores. Hand weeding, proper watering and seeding help maintain healthy lawns/gardens and reduces the need for chemical products.
