About Us
About Us
Also known as East Gwillimbury Gardeners, we are residents of East Gwillimbury and the surrounding areas who love to garden. We're friendly folks who share our gardening secrets, listen to what's new in gardening, and have fun!
Our meetings are free to members and open to everyone (we ask for a $2 donation from non-members). So if you love gardening, come on out and share your passion with us.
The Mount Albert Garden and Horticulture Society (MAGHS) has been active since 1924. (Well, the Society has been active since then--not all the current members.)
A not-for profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and our Society Bylaws, we're affiliated with District 5 of the Ontario Horticultural Association (OHA).
Our activities are supported through membership dues, town and provincial grants, individual and corporate donations, and our own fund raising efforts.
Our Objectives
To encourage interest in and improve horticulture by:
-
holding meetings respecting the theory and practice of horticulture
-
encouraging the planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers on public and private grounds
-
promoting public beautification, and balcony and pot gardening
-
arranging field trips, contests, competitions, and exhibitions related to horticulture, and awarding prizes
-
distributing seeds, plants, bulbs, flowers, trees, and shrubs
-
promoting the circulation of horticulture information through the media
-
promoting the protection of the environment
-
encouraging therapeutic gardening for seniors, the handicapped, and convalescents
-
encouraging youth to appreciate and enjoy gardening
Why join us?
Everyone can attend our fascinating and fun monthly meetings. But MAGHS members enjoy a bouquet of other benefits.
