Our speakers tonight will be We traditionally have a Garden Book Sale as well. If you have books to donate, they will be gratefully received. February 17, 2012 7:30pm Now that Valentine's Day is over, what else do you have to look forward to? Our annual Brown Paper Bag contest, that's what. Take a brown paper bag, any size, decorate it creatively, and put a small gift inside. These will be used as draw prizes for the evening. Remember too, to bring seeds to share at our annual Seed Exchange. Annuals, vegetables, seeds you've saved or bought - we accept them all. Renew your membership if you haven't yet. In keeping with the subject of seeds, If you would like pansies next month give Ruth your preferences during the break - this will ensure we have enough plants for everyone! March 16, 2012, 7:30pm General Meeting, Our annual Pansy Sale is back. Get great prices for a selection of quality plants. March is a good time to start those veggies and flowers from seed, so you will have lots to donate to our plant sale in May. Speaker: TBA April 20, 2012, 7:30pm General Meeting - Our speaker will be May 18, 2012, 7:00pm Prep work for our annual fundraiser - we'll be collecting, sorting, and pricing plants in preparation for Saturday's plant sale. Shifting our sale away from the Mother's Day weekend proved successful last year so we've done it again for 2012! May 19, 2012, 9:00am Annual Plant Sale. Work starts early for our volunteers with setup of tables containing all sorts of treasures for your garden. There will be tables with connoisseur plants as well as many favorite perennials. The annuals are a big hit and there will likely be plants for your veg garden. Plant sale starts at 9am - come early as the best goes quickly! June 15, 2012, 7:30pm General Meeting June is our always popular Strawberry Social. For our program we have a special treat: July 8, 2012 - Its our 85th Anniversary and to commenorate the occasion we're running a garden tour featuring many of the gardens of our members. Many of these gardens are not available as part of Hamilton's Open Garden and shouldn't be missed. Purchase your ticket early and enjoy a wonderful day in a variety of gardens. Tickets will be sold at the May plant sale and June general meeting. Check-in in April in case we start selling tickets early. September 15, 2012, 7:30pm General Meeting In September, our meeting is on a Saturday for a change - Sept. 15, to encourage more members to participate. We will have a Flower and Vegetable Show, including a Design Competition, and we hope you will all enter something. Winning entries will accumulate points. Our program will feature our own October 19, 2012, 7:30pm, General Meeting, speaker TBA November 16, 2012, 7:00pm, Annual Dinner and Awards Night. Be sure to buy your tickets for our Annual Dinner. Tickets are not expensive and include a delicious dinner, humorous speaker, and door prizes. We only have 75 tickets available, so don't wait too long. Tickets will be available at our Sept and October meetings.
Some of our meetings from 2011: April 15, 2011 7:30pm General Meeting, We'll be selling geraniums thanks to one of our members. In addition we will have a mini flower show - the schedule is available under our Newsletter section. May 21, 2011 Annual Plant Sale. The annuals are a big hit and there will likely be plants for your veg garden. The Egyptian onions were a bust last year but the heirloom tomatoes went quickly. The ornamental peppers had a phenomenal year and I hope to see them again. This year we'll have a garden treasures sale - we have a collection of folk art that was donated and available for sale. There will also be a raffle for a planted hypertufa container. The winner will be announced at the June meeting. Plant sale starts at 9am - come early as the best goes quickly! June 18, 2011 A change for us - we're holding our meeting on Saturday. General Meeting and Flower Show. This is a special one - we'll be having a flower show and tea. Visit the Newsletter section for a copy of the Flower Show schedule or pick one up at the April meeting. Our speaker will be Sherry Hayes owner of Landscaping With Style, a Hamilton Landscape Design company. She will inspire you as she shows you how to "Create an Award Winning Garden Design". Sherry, a certified landscape designer, speaks, writes, teaches, and lives design. Are you an enthusiastic gardener but your front yard lacks that 'oomph' factor? Or a new homeowner wondering where to begin? Have you worked hard on your garden but never been able to capture that elusive Trillium Award? If so, then this presentation is a must! Join us Saturday June 18 2-4pm for delicious desserts and dazzling design ideas. In the meantime, check out Sherry's website: www.landscapingwithstyle.on.ca . September 16, 2011 General Meeting. Fall Flower Frenzy! This is a floral version of the Iron Chef: A dozen or more of our members will be divided into teams to create a floral design, using a variety of material they will be given at the meeting. They will have 35 minutes to get inspired, get to work, and get 'er done. While the clock is ticking down we will have commentary by our in-house design specialists, then our members will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite. Come out, get involved, and join the fun. October 21, 2011 General Meeting, the topic with be bees and our speaker will be Shannon Wood. We'll hear the latest including what we can do to attract bess, create a friendly environment for them. More details to follow. October is also Pie Night at our social, so join us for a taste of autumn goodness. Remember to bring your wallet, because we'll be taking reservations for our Annual November Dinner, and selling Indoor Plants. Members, you are invited to bring root cuttings of your favorite plants, and donate houseplants you no longer have room for. November 18, 2011 Annual Dinner and Awards Night. Be sure to buy your tickets for our Annual Dinner. Tickets are $20 and include a delicious dinner, humorous speaker, and door prizes. James Graham, Director of District 13 will be our guest speaker this year. We only have 75 tickets available, so don't wait too long. Tickets will be available at our Sept and October meetings. |
