Upcoming Events by Leaside Garden Society
Our next meeting will be on Thursday,March 11, 2010 when Sid Baller's will be speaking about Cutting Remarks on Practical Pruning.
Sid has been the Superintendent at Humber Arboretum since 1990. He plans to retire on August 31st of this year.
His talk will introduce you to the basics of pruning woody trees and shrubs so that your plants are enabled to maximize their life span and beauty, and can therefore be sustainable elements in the garden landscape.
He will focus on why we ought to prune, the tools of the trade, how to and when to prune, covering a wide range of woody plant material. Questions are welcome and he is willing to stay afterwards to respond to any inquiries that are not covered in the interactive presentation.
Academically, he graduated for the first time in 1967 from Bishop's University with a degree in history, in 1986 from the University of Guelph with the Ontario Diploma in Horticulture (ODH – he calls it an “Overdose in Horticulture”). Sid is scheduled to graduate from the University of Toronto this spring with a MTS in philosophy of religion. He loves teaching and learning and has no immediate plans to quit soon. It’s a joy he likes to share with others.
He has taught and shared pruning practices many times over the years, but still welcomes the opportunity to field any and all questions asked especially from beginners. (2010-02-19) |
