Meetings

 

Our meetings are held on the 4th WEDNESDAY of every month from March to November (except July and August).  Meetings start promptly at 7:30 P.M. unless otherwise stated.

Meeting Location:  Sutherland Hall, 30 High Street, Huntsville

Everyone is welcome to attend.  Non members are asked to give a donation of $2.00 to attend. Our meetings begin with a short business section followed by an interesting guest speaker. Afterwards refreshments are served giving everyone an opportunity to chat and share gardening tips.  Door prizes are drawn at every meeting as well.  Members donate plants and gardening items to a "Green Elephant" table where they can be purchased for a donation. 

Our Annual Meeting is held in November.

April 25 - General Meeting

May 23 -General Meeting

Don’t have time to nurture fussy fruit trees? You can still grow your own fruit…and you can easily grow more than you need. Become self-sufficient in fruit that you can use for preserves, pies, and juice—all without the fuss that many tree fruits demand. This talk will give you the straight goods on three often-forgotten crops: currants and gooseberries; elderberries; and serviceberries. If you’ve ever wondered if you could replace store-bought juice with your own, this talk is for you.

Speaker Topic -"Drought Tolerant Plants."  Elaine Vida , Master Gardener

 

Water wise plants or drought tolerant plants have special survival qualities.  We will explore the different ways that plants have developed to obtain, conserve, and use water efficiently.  We will also look at water efficient gardening techniques. 


OCTOBER

 

October 26 -General Meeting

7:30 pm at Sutherland Hall 30 High Street Huntsville

 

Speaker Topic -Growing Micro Greens–Steve Bacon. 

 

Micro-greens are an easy, affordable and delicious super food that is ready to eat about 7 days after you plant the seeds! They can be grown all year long in a window in your house.  Steve will give a presentation which includes sprouting grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and discusses the how’s and why’s, using a power point presentation.  You will come from this workshop with a whole new perspective on staying healthy by incorporating micro-greens into your diets. Steve will bring a lot of sprouts, samples and supplies.
