Bus Trip- Fund-Raiser- Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Come and join us for a fun day full of colour, scents and socializing with fellow gardeners!
Departure: 7:30 a.m. from Municipal parking lot lower level behind Grand Bend Legion
STOP#1 : Brief rest stop at Service Centre, Highway 401 by Cambridge
STOP #2
Royal Botannical Gardens, Hamilton
Admission tickets will be issued to us on arrival and will give us entry to all outdoor and indoor garden areas. A shuttle bus is available free of charge for those wishing to use this to travel about to the various gardens. Restrooms are located in all garden areas. Lunch is not included in your ticket price, but there are three lunch venues available at the Gardens at your convenience. As a further option, you are free to bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy.
RBG Centre: This is the main building upon entry to the Gardens. In the Centre you will find:
- Indoor Mediterranean Garden displaying many plants from Mediterranean climates
- Cactus and Succulent Collection
- Geranium and English Ivy Collection
- Orchid Collection
- Gift shop and beautiful courtyards.
- The Garden Café - light lunches / entrees
Hendrie Park Garden: The underpass across from the RBG Centre leads us to the Hendrie Park Garden which boasts:
· magnificent displays of roses and lilies
· a Medicinal Garden, a Thyme Garden
· Wildflower Garden
· Woodland gardens
· Fountain; sundial; pergola with climbers
· The Turner Pavilion Teahouse which is a second option for enjoying a light lunch
Laking Garden: This garden is a short walk or ride from Hendrie Garden and here you will find spectactular, colourful plantings of:
- Daylilies
- Peonies
- Irises
- Ornamental Grasses
- Hostas
- A Cottage Garden
Rock Garden: The beginnings of this garden came in 1929 when work began to create a rock garden in the abandonned gravel pit at this location. Today, the garden features beautiful displays of seasonal bulb blooms amongst interesting rock croppings, followed by colourful groupings of interesting annuals later in the season.
The Rock Garden Tea House located here is another option for a light lunch.

STOP #3
Hamilton Aviary
We will proceed to the Aviary which is found in a beautiful park setting and there we will enjoy a guided tour and meet many little feathered friends. The Aviary is a non-profit charitable organization whereby the maintenance and care of the ‘residents’ are provided by a group of volunteers called “Friends of the Aviary”. Among the residents are cockatoos, parakeets, cockatiels, finches and many species of parrot…..some quite vocal.

STOP #4
Canning Perennials – Paris, Ont
Canning Perennials is a family-owned business situated on 8 park-like acres and has been pesticide free for 25 years. We will find over 1500 varieties of hardy perennials, along with many ornamental grasses, shrubs, vines, herbs and water plants. Visitors are free to walk along wooded nature trails, take in the extensive perennial gardens and water gardens on site or shop for that special additon to your home garden from a selection of unique varieties and ‘designer’ plants. Rated as one of the top nurseries in Ontario, Canning’s is sure to not disappoint.

Return Grand Bend Legion approximately 7 pm

Seats sell quickly! Reserve your seat early with a cheque made to Grand Bend and Area Horticultural Society post-dated for June 11. By this date we should know that bus will be full and the trip is a GO. (full refund if trip cancelled)
ATTENTION ! All payments received by April 30 will be entered into a draw (first prize valued at least $60). Submit your payment early to reserve your seat and you could be a lucky winner! Draws will take place onboard bus.
