District 15 Annual General Meeting - Saturday April 21, 2012 by EHS Website Co-ordinator
District 15 Meeting Report - by Cathy Faber
Our Society was privileged to host the District 15 Annual meeting on April 21 at the Weston Golf and Country Club. It was a time to meet the members of the other 16 Horticultural Societies in our District and find out how they were working in their communities.
The day included raffles, draws, vendors, displays, Flower Show and a great guest speaker, Dr Nina Barabas, who presented an informative talk on Climate Change and The Carolinian Forest. The Golf Club provided a delicious lunch and the setting overlooking the golf course was lovely.
Our early spring contributed to a very successful Flower Show competition and we had a Standard Show with 5 classes of designs! The Photography Competition was a big success with several entries.
All of the work that went into planning this event took many volunteers doing everything from decorating the areas, helping unload cars at the door, greeting members as well as organizing the events themselves. We want to thank all volunteers who made this day a great success.
Special recognition to some of the winners of the day:
- Dave Elliott won Best in Show for Floral Design,
- Gay Evans won a first and Pam Collie a second in the Photography Competition (see Gay's garden photo on the EHS home page and Pam's Amaryllis photo in the top left corner of this page),
- our EHS 2012 Yearbook won 1st prize in its Division.
Perhaps we can persuade more of our members to attend the Provincial Convention for the Ontario Horticultural Association to be held Aug 17-19th this year in Niagara. Details at http://www.gardenontario.org/sho/up_conf.php.
