Annual Report 2000 - 2001

District Director, Eloise Schumacher

The Magic Year 2000 arrived and it was my second year as District Director. Our District had the wettest Spring on record but every District completed their schedules of events with great success- despite problems like an electrical storm leaving a plant sale indoors without lights...a garden walk having to be canceled because of the rain- and re-scheduled for another time!

Most of the members planted the OHA Millennium Tulips and had glorious gardens. Grimsby Garden Club sold every business and school and private homes the beautiful pink tulips and indeed turned Grimsby PINK!

The Stamford Society had to give up their charter in October because their members were too frail to attend meetings. It was sad- but we had a closing party with a sing-along and lots of tributes to the past accomplishments of the Society. The local newspaper did a great story for us.

Many of the Clubs and Societies planted Millennium Maple Trees and the enthusiasm is alive and well in District 9. We closed the year by adding a new group- The Lincoln Garden Club and Horticultural Society from Beamsville.

So, as Director, I started Year 2000 with 13 Societies and ended with 13 wonderful Garden Clubs and Horticultural Societies.
