District 2 Fun Day - August 21, 2010 by Mary Ann Van Berlo
The approximately 45 hardy gardeners who turned out for this year’s fun day on August 21st were rewarded with an entertaining and relaxing day in the beautiful setting of Rock Wall Gardens near Perth. Our speakers informed, inspired and entertained us. With topics ranging from floral design to propagation and grafting; there was something for everyone. A day filled with gardening tips was rounded out with demonstrations on constructing a rain barrel and plant combinations.
Judging by the pot-luck lunch, cooking is our members’ second favourite hobby! We had quite the sampling of culinary delights. Our lunch break also gave people a chance to browse the vendors’ stalls and check out Rock Wall’s display gardens.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature sent some rain along to remind us gardeners who’s really in charge. For the most part, we got through the day without getting really wet. But as we were trying to wrap up the event and hand out door prizes, the skies opened up! As one of the volunteers helping with the clean-up said "I haven’t been that wet in a long time".
So a big thank you to everyone who made this day a success – our hostess, Judy Wall of Rock Wall Gardens, our speakers, our vendors, the members who donated door prizes, those who helped with the set-up and, of course, everyone who attended.
