Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society of Amherstburg held nine board meetings. The eight general meetings were held at the Cultural Centre, next to the arena, the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm. As of our fiscal year end our membership had dropped to 119.
Our bimonthly newsletter "The Garden", now in glorious colour, is prepared by David and Patricia Flettt and well received by the membership.
Our annual plant auction in April brought in over $ 700.00 this year.
Early May saw the very successful annual rhododendron sale spearheaded by Paul and Liz Morneau.
The Garden Tour and Fair May 23 & 24 was another success story raising over $4,000.00 over a two day period.
May 30th was our annual bus trip led by a very enthusiastic Denise Postma. It started at Presland Nursery and included stops at the Glass House. Great Lakes Lavender Farm, Kentwood Gardens and SW Gardens. A really great day was enjoyed by all.
This year we donated $3500.00 toward the beautiful hanging baskets within our town.
September showcased this year's winners of the Trillium Awards for most beautiful front yard gardens. Al Gignac, committee chair, made the presentations.
We were pleased to present to each of three area students a $500.00 bursary to assist with their post-secondary education in horticulture.
Our society paid $1500.00 for an evergreen tree to replace the town's Christmas tree that was destroyed by heavy construction machinery in the King's Navy Yard parkette.
Our Youth gardeners, though small in number, did themselves proud with their plot gardens and also their pumpkins under the very capable direction of Donna Gignac.
Early in November Anne Knickle and Paulette Drouillard and their volunteers did a great job "decking the planters" in town with greenery and a Christmas colour scheme.
Our annual meeting and pot luck dinner was held in November.
