2009 Report
Essex and District held 8 regular meetings in 2009 and as many executive meetings as well as our Christmas Party and Annual meeting in November. We had some great speakers and everyone learned a lot about gardening and nature. We had a bus trip in June, a plant and bake sale in May at the Essex Train Station, a Flower Show, Plant and Bake sale in July and 2 plant and seed exchanges as well as 2 silent auctions. This year we could not attend our OHA convention as it was the same date as our Flower Show, which is in conjunction with the Essex Fun Fest. This year we invested in a refurbished lap top to help out our speakers who need access to one. We planted and maintained all the flower beds on the Main Street of Essex, the Town Hall, the Cenotaph, and the Legion, the Town entrance, 23 beds in all. We worked with Community in Blooms and Essex in Blooms. We donated bulbs to nearby McGregor and to our Heritage Gardens at the Train Station. We planted annuals and perennials in the Spring and thousands of tulips in the Fall throughout our Town beds.
