Programs > Volunteer Opportunities for our Members

The success of society projects and fundraisers depends on the enthusiasm and participation of all our members. Volunteering is a wonderful way to share your skills, an opportunity to make new friends and to learn more about plants and gardening while having fun.  Become involved.

For more information on any of these volunteer opportunities, please email creditvalleyhort@gmail. Your email will be forwarded to the appropriate board member for reply.  Volunteers must be members of the Society.

Welcome Table:

Help greet and assist fellow members.

Refreshments:

Donate finger foods or baked goods for the refreshment table.

Flower Shows:

Assist with setup, clerking or join the committee.

Board of Directors:

Share your passion for horticulture and beautifying your community by joining the Board of Directors. Working as a board member is the most significant contribution you can make to your society. As part of this team, you can play a pivotal role in developing and organizing programs and projects.

Community Projects:

Get out and get your hands dirty in one of our community planting projects. Locations change from time to time. Current projects include – a women and children’s shelter, The Erinview, Credit Valley Hospital, South Common Community Centre and the Riverwood Conservancy.

Donate to and help distribute our annual collection of gifts to local seniors’ residences, hospitals and a women and children’s shelter. Donate to our produce food drives for the food bank.

“Litter Not” Walks:

Help keep our city beautiful with clean-ups, three times annually, of a portion of the Sawmill Valley Trail that has been adopted by Credit Valley Horticultural Society.

Plant Sale:

Participate in this major fundraiser held annually on a Saturday in May. Members are encouraged to donate plants from their gardens. Volunteers are needed to help pot up, transport plant trays to the sale site and assist on the sale day.

Garden Tour:

Volunteer as a garden sitter on the day of the tour or be a part of the planning committee.

Telephone Committee:

Be one of our friendly volunteers to remind members of upcoming meetings and events.

Newsletter:

Contribute an article or an idea for one, photo, tip, event or experience for publication in the newsletter.

Member’s Choice:

Don’t wait to be asked – offer your assistance whenever possible. You will not only be providing valuable help, but will be increasing your knowledge and experience. Let us know if there’s something you can do that we haven’t addressed.
