MeetingsEveryone is welcome to attend our meetings and special events. The Monthly Membership Meetings are held every 4th Thursday of the month @ 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with the exception of a summer break in July and December, which is our Annual General Meeting & Banquet & Awards Night @ 6:00 pmPlace: Hunter Hall, Trinity United Church, 140 Maple Street, Collingwood, On (ample parking at the back of the Church) We hold a short " business at hand " session, introduce our special Guest Speaker or do a hands-on project or hold one of our Flower Shows Hold question and answer about the nights topic, address Society concerns, trips and review upcoming events like flower shows, projects, or the upcoming plant sale We have a door prize ( great prizes !). Tickets are handed out as you sign in, so hang on to them. Browse our Photo Gallery/Archives of recent Events, join a committee, sign up for upcoming trips or workshops, borrow books & magazines, review new information sheets & trade gardening secrets. Submit suggestions and generally socialize with one another while sipping a cup of fresh brewed tea or a steaming cup of coffee with a homemade goodie in hand. HISTORY OF PROGRAM SCHEDULE FOR MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS Program History of Membership Year 2011/2012 - October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 April 26, 2012- Membership Meeting, Trish Symons with "Demonstration of Selected Designs from 2012 Flower Shows". At Canada Blooms 2012, Trish gave a Workshop on Great Garden Photography Tips. You can view some of her pictures at Canada Blooms, Garden Hall, Floral Competition, 2011. Trish is a Speaker; Photographer; Writer; Judge of Floral Design, Horticulture, Photography; and an Instructor of Floral Design, Garden Photography and Digital Workshops. She and her husband are owners of Hockley Meadows Farm of 166 acres with 2.5 acres of gardens. March 22, 2012 - "21 Indestructible House Plants" - Tom McCavour, Master Gardener After graduating from Queen’s University with a BSc. degree, Tom pursued a 50 year career in engineering and construction, as a structural designer, inventor, editor, author and lecturer. Tom is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and a recipient of an Award of Merit from the Canadian Standards Association for his work in construction standards. Tom has also been active in community service including the Boy Scout Association, the United Appeal, the Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute and is a past President of the Gateway Probus Club in Collingwood. Following retirement, Tom renewed his interest in gardening and became a Master Gardener, after completing courses at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Tom is a member and treasurer of the Simcoe County Master Gardeners and a member and past officer of the Collingwood Horticultural Society and Garden Club. Tom writes and lectures on a wide variety of horticultural subjects including Container Gardening, Drip Irrigation, Ornamental Weeds, Succulents, Indoor Plants and Lawn Care. Tom and his wife Shirley have a large suburban garden in Nottawa featuring a wide variety of plants and over 250 containers.
