President’s Awards – 2007:

Ruth Fowler who over nearly two decades has been involved in all aspects of Cloverleaf life, including Club Secretary, Director, Bus Tour organizer, CNE Patio team member, volunteer at Bradley House and Benares, Plant Sale, all aspects of Flower Shows both in-house and at Sheridan Mall and the Three Club Shows.  Ruth is always willing to help out without having to be asked. She just sees what needs to be done and gets on and does it.  We also wish Ruth all the best with her move to Vancouver Island later this Spring.  We will all miss her.

JoAnn Hogg has been a long time member of Cloverleaf and has actively participated in many Club activities.  She has entered cultural exhibits in many flower shows, often winning Best in Show and Judge’s Choice for her wonderful cultural specimens.  JoAnn served on the Board as a Director and most recently headed up the Membership Committee for several years and was also a member of the Awards Committee.  Thank you JoAnn for your untiring and conscientious efforts on behalf of Cloverleaf.

Lissa McCullogh has recently co-chaired the Cloverleaf Garden Tour and has been prime on the project management of all aspects of the Tour.  Last year’s tour was a total departure from previous tours and focused on a walking garden tour of the Heritage Conservation District of Port Credit.  Lissa’s attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the day went off without a hitch.  This Garden Tour was the most significant fundraiser in the Club’s recent history.

Life Membership Award - 2007:

Our Life Membership Award recipient for 2007 has been a member for close to 37 years including past Director 1975-78, President 1978-79 and Officer 1983-85.

She was chair of many committees such as Dance, Newsletter, Programme, Social, Yearbook and in later years the Flower Show.

This busy member is also a Master Gardener and an active Judge for both Design and Horticulture including a past winner of the Georgina Mentis Award for Most Creative Design.

She has contributed in many ways to the success of Cloverleaf over the years and we ask that you join in congratulating Helen Ascroft on attaining Life Membership.

Above and Beyond at Cloverleaf Award:

This year’s recipient is Anne Clark-Stewart in recognition of her idea to hold a walking garden tour of the Heritage Conservation District of Port Credit.  Added to this concept were Open Houses at the Fire Hall, the Masonic Temple and a lovely Tea Room at Clarke Hall with other exhibitors in place.  Not only did she present the idea, she worked countless hours on the committee, the design of the tour booklet, wrote all of the garden descriptions and convinced her neighbours to participate in the Garden Tour.  This past year, Anne has also been very active on the Board as a Director and has undertaken other initiatives, including the redesign of the Club Brochure and the design of a new brochure for our Awards Programs.  She is also active with the Plant Sale, providing hundreds of plants from her garden.  Her on-going interest is the monthly Flower Show, where she is on the Flower Show Committee, assists with the set-up, prepares the yearbook input, and enters regularly in both design and cultural classes.

Georgina Mentis Award for the Most Creative Design

(September Show):

In September 2003 Cloverleaf lost a very special member Georgina Mentis. Geo was a member of Cloverleaf for almost 40 years.  We were truly blessed to have had such a wonderfully talented member who shared her knowledge and expertise with so many at our Club.  Geo inspired us with her creative floral designs, encouraging members to learn, try their hand at flower arranging and enter monthly shows.

In her memory and to honour her creative spirit, Cloverleaf has created the Georgina Mentis Award for the Most Creative Design to be awarded each year in September, chosen by the judge of that show. The award will be a floral design book which highlights to latest in floral design techniques.

The winner for 2007 is Celia Roberts Vanderjagt for her innovative interpretation of the class  Abundance.

Olga Alexander Judge’s Awards for Design and Cultural:

Olga Alexander was a consummate artist who created wondrous works of art from fleeting materials, flowers and plants.  She was a design and horticulture judge and master flower arranger.  Many members of Cloverleaf benefited from her vast knowledge of plants, with good advice and guidance.

The Olga Alexander Judge’s Awards for Cultural and Design use Olga’s judging pins and one of the books from her vast library.  A truly fitting legacy that will inspire us as Olga had for so many years.

These awards were presented by Lotte Brunner.

Olga Alexander Judge’s Award for Design for 2007 was won by Celia Roberts Vanderjagt, as the judge with the highest points in design for the year.

Olga Alexander Judge’s Award for Cultural for 2007 was won by Anne Clark-Stewart, as the judge with the highest points in cultural for the year.
