Community, Civic Projects & Outreach

Partnering with the City of Mississauga, Cloverleaf supports local horticultural programmes.

For a number of years Cloverleaf volunteers tended selected gardens at the Benares and Bradley House, the Mississauga Historic Museums.  Through liaison with staff at the museums, Cloverleaf supported and promoted an awareness of gardening in the community. Cloverleaf recreated the historical gardens by researching and using accurate flower and vegetable plantings from the period.  In the 1830’s it was unusual to grow flowers – there was no time for such frivolity!  However, as Mrs. Bradley raised seven children, a sufficient workforce for the fields, and she felt entitled to develop her own perennial beds near the house.

To help celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the village of Port Credit in 2010, Cloverleaf designed and planted a 20’x 15’ commemorative flower bed on the former Port Credit Lawn Bowling property.  The design resembled Port Credit as “the village by the lake”, with a rainbow to reflect the rainbows often seen over the lake and white and blue petunias to resemble the lake and the waves.

Complementing this work, and extending our involvement in the civic life of our community, Cloverleaf a small  number of members provide floral displays for the Art Gallery at Mississauga City Hall.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming active in our community, or to volunteer to help out with the outreach programmes, please contact us.
