Home > About Us About UsPresidents Report 2010 The Year 2010 has turned out to be a very interesting and busy time. The Municipality of Trent Hills and the Communities in Bloom Committee decided to not register for the Communities in Bloom Competition for 2010, but we wanted all the areas that need improvement maintained and more improvements made throughout the Municipality of Trent Hills. The Communities in Bloom Committee has been keeping track of changes, photos, newspaper articles for the continuation of the Competition for 2011. The Communities in Bloom Committee members should be very proud of all the accomplishments that have been made throughout the last few years! Keep up the great work everyone. Special Thanks to Pam and everyone who helped organize the bus trip to Canada Blooms and the $200 donation to our Society. We had a full bus for the day and will hopefully continue to organize the bus trip for 2011. In April, Earth Day celebrated 40 years, our Horticultural Society joined with all of the local schools for a complete clean up of our local parks, side roads and schools. The Grade 9 Campbellford High School has combined Physical Education with Environmental Issues and have created a new class called “Geo Venture Program” The teacher Michael Oatway has worked hard with the kids to promote this new course. A Special thanks to all the public, separate and high school kids for all their help on Earth Day and keeping their schools and local parks clean! Great Job kids! At the graduation of our local schools, one of our members from our society presented the youth award plaque. This plaque will be given to a deserving student each year. Thanks to Marg for the terrific idea of a youth award plaque that will go on for years and help keep the youth involved in horticultural. This summer, We had a terrific spring & fall plant sale which generates revenue for our society. The plant sales are our main fundraisers each year. Thanks to everyone who worked hard in their gardens digging up perennials, annuals, crafts and baking. In July, we had our garden tour of 6 beautiful gardens and we also added in artisans at the gardens. We had 103 people tour the gardens. Everyone who participated in the Garden Tour, said it was the best Tour yet! In August we had our garden party at Muriel Godden’s house. It was raining that evening at Muriel’s but the sun came out and it ended up to be a beautiful evening. In October, we have our annual Pumpkin Contest. Thank you to all the members that helped with the Pumpkin Contest & a great job to everyone who participated. Also, thank you to Helen who donated the pumpkins to the children at the Beehive Day Care. Our year will end up with our Annual Christmas Potluck in December and Annual Meeting in Nov. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered over the past year & to help make 2010 a very successful year!! Thank You. Report submitted by Nancy Boivin, President
