BOND HEAD and DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the 2011 gardening year. Soon the snowdrops, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other spring bulbs will be poking their heads through the ground and producing cheery flowers. It's always exciting to watch them emerge.
At our Annual General Meeting in November, we once again installed an excellent group of Officers and Directors. With their assistance, we can continue the good work of our society Thank you to our outgoing President, Mikki Nanowski, for her leadership as President during the past two years.
The Program Committee has arranged for some excellent speakers for our General Meetings this year. We hope you will come out and enjoy the speakers and the fellowship at our meetings.
The Show Committee will be holding a flower show in June and a Flower and Vegetable Show in September Everyone is encouraged to enter the competitions. Check out the categories and make plans to plant the flowers and vegetables on the List of Entries, in your gardens this year. No entry is insignificant. Keep in mind that you receive a point for each of your entries whether or not you win a prize.
This year, we will be working on improving the grass area of our Bond Head Parkette. As the year progresses, we will keep you posted on the improvements that are being planned.
In May, we will be holding our Annual Plant and Bake Sale and our Plant Auction. We hope you will start thinking about what plants in your gardens you are willing to share to help out with these two fundraising events.
I hope everyone has a great and enjoyable gardening season.
Gloria Pengelly
