Lakeshore Food Bank by Suzette Cecile
Lakeshore Food Bank
The Board of the Belle River & District Horticultural Society has been and continues to be involved in a great project. In conjunction with the Lakeshore Food Bank, the Society chooses to accept the challenge of helping to meet the needs of people/families that are much less fortunate than most of us.
At every meeting, we hold a 50/50 draw – 50% goes directly to the Food Bank. Also, we encourage everyone to bring in at least one item to donate to the Food Bank. The only stipulation is that it must be a non-perishable donation. Great items for this are peanut butter, jams, pastas, sauces, hamburger helpers, canned vegetables and fruits, crackers, cereals, canned soups, dried packaged soups, granola bars, cookies, tuna, salmon, canned stew, tomato juice, pork & beans, sidekicks, pancake mix, syrup, liquid honey, paper products such as towels, bathroom tissue, Kleenex, serviettes – sometimes people would really appreciate some ‘fancier’ ones just for that special occasion, as much as we like to have them.
Another way we can be helpful to this cause is by donating cash – simply give your gift to one of the people at the Food Bank table and be assured that every penny received will immediately be donated directly to the Lakeshore Food Bank.
What a good feeling we can get and blessing we can be merely by thinking of someone else and helping make their life just a bit more pleasant and affordable.
Please consider this request very seriously in this time of many, needing so much, encouraged by us, giving just a little.
WE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!
