The Calm Nith by Paul Arrowsmith
The residents of Ayr barely had time to clean up their Christmas wrappings before the new year when reports of the mighty Nith River made the National News. Early in the afternoon of December 29th, the murky waters of the Nith began to pour over the road just west of the Piper Street bridge. The local volunteer Fire Department members assisted businesses with pumps and generators. The picture is taken from the Piper Street bridge looking south just to the left of the arena. By the dawn of 2009, the Nith had resumed its usual meandering course on its way to Paris. (2009-01-11) |
