Calendar of Events 2011
All meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m., except July and December, at the Cornerstone Community Church (unless noted otherwise).
- January
- January 24 - Speaker - Gill Hyland, Kevin and Jennifer Cooney of Cooney Construction and Landscaping. Topic - The design and execution of the Mississippi River Walk and other gardens.

- February 28 - Speaker - Debby Lytle, Carleton Place Horticultural Society. Topic - Get inspiration from her exclusive slides of Le Quatre Vents garden in La Malbaie, Quebec.

- March 28 - Allan Goddard of Almonte Landscaping. Topic - Trees and shrubs to attract birds and wildlife.

- April 25 - Speaker - Cindy Zorgel. Topic - Demonstration of floral design from basic principles to abstract. Helen Halpenny, Master Gardener, will also show slides from Ikebana demonstrations and previous exhibitions. Designs will be given away through a special raffle.
- A&DHS Flower Show - Entries to be brought to the Cornerstone Community Church from 7-7:30 pm. Judging from 7:30-8:30 pm. Viewing at break time. Refer to your Yearbook or email for details.

- May 14 - Plant Sale - 9 a.m. Saturday, Almonte Public Library Parking Lot.
- May 30 - Tentative Speaker - Edythe Falconer, Ottawa Master Gardener. Topic - Pest control.
- A&DHS Flower Show - Entries to be brought to the Cornerstone Community Church from 7-7:30 pm. Judging from 7:30-8:30 pm. Viewing at break time. Refer to your Yearbook or email for details.

- June 27 - 90th Anniversary Social at the Almonte Library Garden at 6:30 p.m. Ankaret Dean, Master Gardener, will demonstrate willow sculptures. Are you interested in creating one on site that evening? Register early to participate.
- A&DHS Flower Show - Entries to be brought to the Almonte Library Meeting Room from 6:00-6:30 pm. Judging from 6:30-7:30 pm. Viewing at break time. Refer to your Yearbook or email for details.

- No July meeting.
- July 15 to 17- 153rd Almonte Fair, "Down in Dairyland". Show your vegetables, herbs, flowers, potted plants and photography.

- August
- August 22 - Culinary Feast from Your Garden.
Taste testing of potluck delicacies prepared with fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. Bring your dishes, utensils and recipes. Starts at 6:30 p.m.
- Speaker - Geraldine Baker of The Worm Factory. Topic - Build gardens from garbage with red wigglers that convert waste to soil! Special price that evening for starter kits - $40. for one pound of red wigglers.
- August 27 - A&DHS Harvest Show (Flowers and Vegetables). Entries to be brought to the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum [Upper Level] from 10:00 am to noon. Judging from noon to 2:00 pm. Open to the public from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Refer to your Yearbook or email for details.

- September 26 - Speakers - Lanark County Master Gardeners. Topic - Propagation and division of perennials. Hands-on demonstration of how to divide perennials. Bring a clump for the demo and swap with members and guests.

- October 24 - Speaker - Anne Johnston. Topic - Flower Photography. Anne has won the Ontario Horticultural Society photo competition in 2008 and 2009. Some of her photographs can be viewed at

- November 28 - Annual Meeting - Christmas potluck supper and program, awards night, and elections. Bring your dishes, utensils and be prepared to share your recipes. Starts at 6:30 pm.

District 2 Annual General Meeting by Lori Ray, Pakenham
| District 2 Director Jeff Blackadar, the Almonte and District Horticultural Society and the Pakenham Horticultural Society extend to you an invitation to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting for District 2 on Saturday April 16th, 2011 in Pakenham.
The meeting will be held at the Stewart Community Centre, 112 MacFarlane Street, Pakenham.
