Calendar of Events 2010
All meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m., except July and December, at the Cornerstone Community Church (unless noted otherwise).

- January 25 - "Off to a Good Start"
- Speaker - Allan Goddard of Almonte Landscaping who will share his theories on a successful approach to growing plants from seeds.

- February 22 - Slide presentation of the Chelsea Flower Show - Great visual inspiration.

- To help profile "Spirit of the Garden", the Almonte United Church
- will host a speaking event on Friday, February 26, 7 - 8 p.m. entitled Lilacs at the Central Experimental Farm. The presentation, with photos, will include a history of lilac cultivation, including the Ottawa hybridization connection, the diversity within the species with examples from the lilacs at the Central Experimental Farm. Horticultural society members are welcome.

- April 10 - Spirit of the Garden
- Horticultural society members and gardening enthusiasts are invited to attend the second annual Spirit of the Garden event at the Almonte United Church on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a local celebration of gardening which includes exhibits, speakers, workshops and music to fill the day. Much fun.

- April 26 - Colour in your garden through three seasons. Includes container planting and curb appeal tips.
Speaker - Helen Halpenny, Master Gardener.

- May 15 - Plant Sale - 9 a.m. Saturday, Almonte Public Library Parking Lot
- May 31 - Effective and safe herbal remedies that grow in your garden.
Speaker - Carol McGrath, Registered Herbalist for 18 years. She's a terrific and animated speaker who gives a hands-on type of demonstration.

- June 28 - Rock Gardens - Landscaping with Alpine Plants.
Speaker - Judy Wall, Master Gardener who operates Rock Wall Gardens in Perth.

- No July meeting.
- July 16 to 18 - 152nd Almonte Fair. Show your vegetables, herbs, flowers and potted plants.

- August 23 - Culinary Feast from Your Garden
Taste testing of potluck delicacies prepared with fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. Bring your dishes, utensils and recipes. Starts at 6:30 p.m.

- September 27 - Communities in Bloom - How to get the community on board and looking its best.
- Speaker - Debbie Lytle, Carleton Place Horticultural Society.

- October 25 - Establishing a Rock Garden.

- November 22 - Annual Meeting - Potluck supper, awards night, and elections. Bring your dishes, utensils and be prepared to share your recipes. Starts at 6:30 pm.
