2008 Poetry Competition Schedule

Theme: Sharing Our Diversity

  1. This competition is open to all members of the Ontario Horticultural Association.
  2. Each member is allowed only one entry per category.
  3. All poems must be fresh, original and not previously published. Please ensure that you sign the section on the permission form claiming originality.
  4. Poems submitted are to be typed, with no name or distinguishing features on 8.5”x11”   (216 x279mm) letter size paper, 12 Font, Times New Roman (if possible) along with class name. **Note Class 1 asks for a different font size for part of the poem**
  5. Please send the Chairperson your poem as an attachment in Word as well as the mailed copy. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to acknowledge receipt of your entry.
  6. Poems will not be returned.
  7. All poems will be displayed at the convention. Winning poems to be read at the convention. 
  8. Please enclose a permission form fully completed which can be found on the website www.gardenontario.org/sho/pub.php
  9. Please include a cover letter with your name, full address, including postal code, your Society and District. 
  10. All entries must be mailed to the chair, postmarked no later than May 1st, 2008.

CLASSES:

Class 1.   “FLOWERS”

Acrostic - form of poetry were the word is written vertically in Capital letters (please use Bold, 14 Font, Times New Roman (if possible) for the word FLOWER  and use 12 Font, Times New Roman (if possible) for the remainder of your poem.

Class 2.   “Friends We Meet”

Free verse or rhyme, in length a minimum of 10 and maximum of 40 lines on the theme of friends we meet while gardening.

Class 3.   Sharing Our Diversity

Free Verse or rhyme, in length minimum of 10 and maximum of 40 lines, on the theme of the convention.

PRIZES:

First     $10.00

Second  $8.00   

Third      $6.00

BEST IN SHOW – Ribbon only
