Gardens of Ireland: Des Kennedy, an award-winning journalist, environmental activist, author and unrepentant gardener joins the Ottawa Botanical Garden Society for a visual and literary trip to the lush landscapes and gardens of the Emerald Isle. He will also regale the audience with an excerpt from "Passionate Encounters in the Garden". May 13 at 7 pm. St Paul High School, 265 Draper Ave. (near Lee Valley Tools). Country Garden Tour with a Twist: Take a peek "Over the Hedge" at 10 fabulous gardens in the Kemptville, Manotick, Burritts' Rapids and Merrickville areas on June 14 and 15, 2008 The twist? As an option take the tour as part of a fun car rally - no time or speed considerations apply to this unique rally - just a few special surprises and one-of-a-kind prizes for lucky winners. Cyclists are welcome too! "Over the Hedge" is a fundraiser for the Ottawa Botanical Garden Society which is dedicated to building a Botanical Garden of Canada. OBGS individual/group members-$25/$30. The 2008 “Heart of Northumberland” Garden Tour will feature nine gardens. Lunch will be available for a reasonable cost at a local church and the “For the Birds” boutique featuring functional and handcrafted or painted birdhouses will be open for business at one of the gardens. Raffle prizes. All proceeds go to support Northumberland Big Sisters Big Brothers. Passports $20 available after May 1st.
