OHA Committee: Fundraising

Everything's Coming Up Tulips

The Ontario Horticultural Association Fundraising Committee moves from strength to strength. Buoyed by the success of such projects as the Nectar Cookbook, the luscious Perpetual Calendar (both available on this site at Shop), and the dazzling pink Millennium Tulip (188,800 bulbs were sold at a profit of $52,000), the Committee has launched its Centennial project.

To celebrate OHA’s 100 anniversary in 2006, the Fundraising Committee offers the Centennial Tulip of the Ontario Horticultural Association – a breathtaking deep purple Triumph Hybrid that will bloom year after year in your home and community beds. The Triumph is a cross between the long-stemmed Darwin Tulip and short-stemmed Early Tulips and should rise to about 18 inches. It is recommended as an excellent pot plant and will mingle beautifully with softer colours like apricot and lemon yellow.

How appropriate that the Committee has chosen a Triumph – known for its cheerful persistence – and a purple one at that – considered by some to signify loyalty and longevity. Purple is also associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery and magic – the very essence of horticulture.
